Житель британского города Лидс завел в твиттере аккаунт Russian Memes United , где переводит для иностранцев русские мемы. Автор не раскрывает своего имени, но говорит , что его мама родом из России и что он всегда поддерживал связь с родственниками отсюда. А вот русскими мемами британец проникся только полтора месяца назад.
Его вдохновила волна популярности русских мемов, которую запустил американец под ником sinister gay catboy cabal
. В июне американец восхитился мемом «Этот гигантский кот» и написал: «Я смотрю на русские мемы и схожу с ума, они действительно отличные». Пользователи твиттера (в основном, русские) отреагировали очень бурно и начали кидать ему разные популярные в России мемы с английским переводом.
Британец решил перехватить инициативу и через несколько дней запустил свой паблик на эту тему. Чтобы переводить шутки на английский, он пользуется базовыми знаниями русского, словарями и помощью друзей из России. Мемы подбирает самые разные — с животными, кадрами из сериалов, колоритными фотографиями и даже картинками из паблика «Страдающее Средневековье». 4. CNN Student News — «детские» новости на английском (с субтитрами)
CNN Student News — это не адаптированные новости для изучающих английский, а новости для американских школьников. Темп речи в них обычный для новостей, но подача материала заметно проще, чем во «взрослых» новостях. Я бы сказал, что это новости для тех, кому адаптированные тексты и неестественно медленная речь уже неинтересны, а обычные новости пока еще сложны.
Примечание: с начала 2017 года передача CNN Student News переименована в CNN 10. Сути это не изменило — те же 10-минутные выпуски на относительно простом языке.
Вот основные особенности этого ресурса:
- Выпуски выходят ежедневно, продолжительность — 10 минут.
- Новости посвящены как внутренним, так и международным событиям.
- Уже много лет передачу ведет один и тот же ведущий — Карл Азус.

The ‘woman yelling at a cat’ meme
This is another meme that works by putting two contrasting pictures together – an angry woman and an intelligent-looking cat. It looks as though the woman is shouting at the cat and the cat is disagreeing.
The picture of the woman (Taylor Armstrong) is from an American TV series called Real Housewives of Beverly Hill. The cat is called Smudge – his Instagram account has 1.5 million followers!

In this example, the joke is based on the fact that many English speakers find it difficult to pronounce the word ‘specific’ – they say ‘pacific’ instead. The angry woman is telling the cat the correct way to say the word is ‘specific’. The cat simply doesn’t care and annoys the woman by saying the correct pronunciation is ‘pacific’.
As with so many successful memes, they change over time and get combined with other memes. Here’s a great example that pokes fun at the ways four different languages use the definite article.
The angry woman (French) is shouting at the man (Italian). Both are claiming that the words for ‘the’ in each of their languages are the best ones. The woman (German) is looking puzzled at the complex case system the Germans use for the word ‘the’. The cat (English) is looking smug that there’s only one word for ‘the’ in English.

Все это — фольклор. Многие привыкли, что под этим термином подразумеваются былины, сказки, частушки, народные песни. Но на самом деле анекдот тоже определяют как жанр городского фольклора, а мемы относят к цифровому народному творчеству.
Они помогают узнавать «своих». Анекдоты и мемы позволяют почувствовать принадлежность к определенной группе. Принимая или отвергая определенную шутку, группа обозначает свое место в обществе и заявляет о взглядах и интересах.
Полина Колозариди, интернет-исследовательница, координатор клуба любителей интернета и общества, преподаватель НИУ ВШЭ:
«Мем рассчитан на здравый смысл, на то, что его содержание будет распознано быстро. Он отчасти похож на анекдот: в обоих случаях это способ поделиться быстро важным и понятным, почувствовать себя вместе. В этом легко убедиться, если зайти на онлайн-площадку, где много чем-то непохожих на вас людей, например другого возраста или других интересов. Их мемы, смешные и очевидные для группы, едва ли будут смешны незнакомцам».
Мы не знаем, кто их придумал. Вряд ли можно найти хоть один интернет-мем или анекдот с указанием авторства. По мнению кандидата филологических наук Светланы Канашиной, так создатели шуток и смешных картинок получают возможность выражать мнение и эмоции без оглядки на общественную мораль и не нести за это никакой ответственности.

In 2012, a post titled «Just a book owner’s smile…» was submitted to Reddit and, shortly after, the glory that is Ermahgerd girl was born. Featuring a young girl, awash with nerdy excitement and brandishing a trio of Goosebumps books, the photo soon became synonymous with «oh my God» levels of excitement.
Some say the misspelling of «oh my God» as «ermahgerd» is meant to represent the difficulty that would come speaking with teenage braces. As a result, the text accompanying these memes is often misspelt along the same lines.
Ermahgerd spawned many spin-off memes in the form of various excited animals eying up treats and tasty morsels.
The girl in the original photograph was eventually found. Maggie Goldenberger was actually just playing dress-up with friends when the snap was taken and found it hilarious many years later when told about the meme.
Angela Bassett did the thing
Now, we all love the Baftas. They’re a great and glorious thing. They can, however, be a little bit dry at times. This year was something of an exception.
Arianna DeBose of Hamilton, Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story and Westworld, followed Richard E Grant’s opening monologue with a medley of Eurythmics’ ‘Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves’ and Sister Sledge’s ‘We Are Family’ which climaxed with a self-composed rap which recalled that bit in ‘Vogue’ where Madonna gives thanks for Grace Kelly and Jean Harlow and that: «Angela Bassett did the thing, Viola Davis my Woman King / Blanchett, Cate, you’re a genius, and Jamie Lee, you are all of us!»

Philosoraptor is an unusual one in the meme world as it came about after the creation and copyrighting of a design for a new t-shirt.
However, that may well have had some inspiration from the web too as in 2007 a Photoshopped image was posted to 4Chan of a Velociraptor from Jurrassic Park holding a book by Plato.
Since then, the Philosoraptor t-shirt image has been the subject of many memes and is simply accompanied by various philosophical questions that an intelligent dinosaur might ponder.
Examples include «Is a key still a key if there is no lock?» and «Is a fly without wings called a walk?»

The new ministers Johnson brought in to prop him up almost immediately joined the coup telling him he had to go. The resignations kept coming, alerting the general public to which MPs know how to use the scan document function in their Notes app and which don’t.

Gary Lineker vs the actual government
Now that some time has passed, it’s hard to fathom quite how thoroughly the Gary Lineker story shoved absolutely everything else off the news agenda. At one point the Telegraph had eight different comment pieces about it running simultaneously.
On Twitter Lineker criticised it as an «immeasurably cruel policy» which was being used against «the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s». Then Alex Scott pulled out of Football Focus, the commentators said they wouldn’t work on Match of the Day, and the presenters of the BBC’s goals service Final Score followed suit. It all looked quite desperate for the Beeb, and deeply impressive for its unofficial football production union.

What started as a dispute over a tweet by one of its biggest stars turned into an existential crisis for the BBC, with all and sundry chiming in over the hypocrisy of the corporations dealings with Lineker – Lord Sugar tweeted quite a lot of stuff about hating Jeremy Corbyn, for instance – and the fact that the Richard Sharp, the BBC chairman, donated £400,000 to the Conservatives and still stands accused of helping Boris Johnson sort out a loan while he was Prime Minister. It all smells slightly funny.
So in the end there was no football coverage on BBC TV that Saturday. Come 10.30pm, we got not Match of the Day, but an unbranded value-pack knock-off version called ‘Premier League highlights’. It showed the highlights, but with just crowd noise and no analysis. It was rubbish.
Nonetheless lots of Tories turned up to insist that actually – actually! Funnily enough! – preferred this weird state of affairs. Scott Benton, MP for Blackpool South, said that it was the best edition «in years» as in a break with six decades of precedent it «had all the goals in». He also claimed it «finished quicker than usual so I could make the pub for last orders,» which, if true, sounds like a cry for help.

By the middle of the following week, Lineker had been given an apology and was back on usual duties. What an absolute palaver.
