But how about people who were born rich? Or perhaps lucky enough to win a jackpot? In the world of Zi Wei Dou Shu, karma has a lot to do with one’s fortune. Because of karma, some were born into an affluent family, some weren’t. You could be a very hardworking, top-notch company executive with smart financial management skills, but sometimes you still need that little bit of luck to push you to the top 3% of the society, right?
But not so soon… don’t blame everything on karma
Undeniably, the law of karma is secretly at play in our lives, because what goes around, comes around. Let’s face it, karma is a bitch. Reward or retribution may come sooner or later, if not in this lifetime then perhaps the next if you believe in the Buddhist concept of rebirth. In Ziwei, nothing trumps a good-looking Karma Sector. What is the point to have all the fortune in the world but you have poor health or no love ones to enjoy it with? Some people are naturally happy and content with very little in life, living without the feeling of lust or greed can also be a bliss, wouldn’t you agree?
Why are you always struggling to make ends meet? Why do you always end up being with the wrong person? Maybe you need to look inward first before blaming on bad luck or karma. Life is full of choices because you always have the option to spend responsibly or leave a toxic relationship. But if all fails, what can we do? Remember how the Karma Sector supports the others? So what does karma have to do with Zi Wei Dou Shu, you may ask?
The Book of Zi Wei Dou Shu is said to be written by a Taoist sage named Chen Xiyi during the Song Dynasty (10th century). However, many names of stars used in Zi Wei Dou Shu are actually Buddhist terms from ancient scriptures. So how is such metaphysical concept of Taoist origin full of terms and philosophy from Mahayana Buddhism? Over the centuries, there were many events to exterminate Buddhist beliefs in ancient China. In order to survive, the Buddhists used the language of local traditional beliefs such as Taoism to spread their teachings. Over time these terms and concepts seeped into Taoist philosophy, and in turn to influence each other and accepted by the masses.
The spirit of Mahayana Buddhism can be clearly seen in the logic of Ziwei — from the characteristics of stars, their meanings in which sector they are located, to the relations between sectors and the transformation of stars. The fundamentals of Ziwei denote the cycle of cause and effect, which is the foundation of karma. So by that logic, according to the person’s personality, what had already happened and so forth, we can also determine what is to happen.
