Childhood and Adolescence
On September 26, 1968, Jim Patrick Caviezel was born in Mount Vernon, Washington. Margaret, a former stage actress, and James Caviezel, a chiropractor, were his parents.
Jim has four siblings: Timothy, his younger brother, and Ann, Amy, and Erin, his three sisters.
Jim is a member of a close-knit Catholic family. He has Irish, Swiss, and Slovak ancestors.
Sports and religion were his two main passions as a child. He had the athletic ability to perform well on a basketball floor and aspired to play in the NBA. He and his family attended church on a regular basis since he was a child, and he was taught Christian values.
He started at Mount Vernon High School in 1984, but after two years transferred to O’Dea High School. He was transferred to John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in Burien, Washington, the following year, where he was a top basketball player for his school’s squad. He received his diploma in 1987.
Jim completed his education and enrolled at Bellevue Collegiate, where he was selected for the college basketball team once more.
Jim’s basketball career and hopes of playing in the NBA were cut short when he suffered a foot injury while playing hoops. He gained an interest in acting while healing from his injury and chose to devote his time to it.
Jim enrolled at the University of Washington in Seattle and obtained a degree in drama and performing arts as a result of his decision. Later, he enrolled in the University of Southern California’s professional acting school.

Acting Career
Jim Caviezel’s career in films started with a play in Seattle which earned him a Screen Actors Guild card with a minor role in the 1991 film My Own Private Idaho. He then moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. He would have given up on acting but for a phone call from Terrence Malick who cast and directed him in the World War II film The Thin Red Line (1998) which became his breakthrough.
Jim has gone ahead to appear in other notable films which include G.I Jane (1997), Ride with the Devil (1999) which is an American Civil War film, Count of Monte Cristo (2002), High Crimes (2002). He would later portray the role of Jesus Christ in Mel Gibson’s movie, Passion of the Christ in 2004. He claimed his role in the film put a hold on his acting career as leading roles did not come forth after that role. Adding that Gibson warned him against taking the role stating he would never work in Hollywood again to which he responded that we all have to embrace our crosses.
Jim is a man who upholds his faith and respects his wife both on screen and anywhere. He does not compromise principles and does not play love roles with nude scenes. A case was when he refused to do any love scenes with his on-screen wife Ashley Judd in High Crimes because it conflicted with his strong Catholic faith. And in Angel Eyes, Jim also refused to do a love scene with Jennifer Lopez because she was naked.
In 2006, Caviezel enrolled in at least one class as a part-time student at the University of Notre Dame.
Political activity, interesting facts
In early October 2006, Patricia Heaton, MikeSweeney, Jim Caviezel and Kurt Warner opposed the study of embryonic stem cells. In his speech Jim said: «You betrayed the son of God with a kiss,» and ended with the following words: «Now you know … Do not do this.»
Many of those present at the performance accepted this as an ordinary actor’s performance and noted that Jim had a really great acting talent.
In 2006, the actor gave $ 2,100 from his personal budget in support of the re-election of Senator Rick Santorum, but it all ended in failure.

Jim Caviezel is a married guy. He tied a knot with Kerri Browitt, a high school English teacher in 1996. The pair met on a blind date set up by Kerri’s sister in 1993 and eventually got married three years later. Before marrying her husband, Kerri was a successful basketball player and was part of the women’s basketball team WWU Vikings while attending Western Washington University (WWU). They have adopted three children (Lyn Elizabeth Caviezel, Bo Caviezel, and David Caviezel) from China who had cancer. There’s much love between the two and hope it will remain as same as in the future too. Concerning Jim’s sexual orientation, he is straight.
